Sound quality

Young has publicly expressed concern about digital sound quality, criticizing in particular the quality offered by Apple's iTunes Store. "My goal is to try and rescue the art form that I've been practising for the past 50 years," he said.

Some say that differences between Pono and other formats will be subtle, coming into play during the process of sound engineering (and not simple listening). However, Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers said "It's not like some vague thing that you need dogs' ears to hear. It's a drastic difference."

PonoPlayer

The device, called PonoPlayer, will reportedly cost $399 and come with 128GB of memory. They'll start taking discounted pre-orders on March 15 via Kickstarter. The press release notes that the PonoPlayer, developed in collaboration with Ayre Acoustics, can store "1,000 to 2,000 high-resolution digital-music albums".

PonoMusic

PonoMusic is the device's accompanying desktop-based "media management" system, which allows customers to download and sync music to player. They'll reportedly offer "the finest quality, highest-resolution digital music from both major labels and prominent independent labels". Their online store will also offer "PonoMusic recommended earbud and headphone products". Pono reportedly has backing from major record labels Warner, Sony, and Universal, and has signed a full agreement with Warner.

Reception

A Rolling Stone report on Pono relayed generally positive anticipation, but quoted rock star Jim James as asking, "I've already bought Aretha Franklin's 'Respect' a lot of times. Do I have to buy it again?"

There has been criticism of the idea of distributing music in this format from various people, including audio engineers, citing scientific studies that found no audible difference between 16-bit/48kHz and 24-bit/192kHz formats. Additionally, it is claimed that playing music in a 192kHz format may be detrimental to sound quality on many devices, since most audio hardware is designed for best performance with lower bandwidth signals."

Yo en lo poco que he podido leer apenas he encontrado información de las especificaciones del repro en sí... Ojo con el secretismo!!

Pero bueno, a mí lo que me gusta de verdad es el nombre, que me parece divertidísimo. Ya hay gente incluso desbarrando al respecto y pidiendo que por favor saquen una edición apadrinada por U2 y que lo llamen el Bono Pono... jajajajajajajaja

A mi me parece bastante funcional con esa forma, ya que tienes siempre a la vista la pantalla... lo veo más como un repro de casa y no de calle.

Aparte de todo eso, puede que solo tener tres botones sea un problema, no?
Si a mi ya me costo adaptarme al meizu y a el iPod Classic no se como me llevaría con uno así.

si os leeis las caracteristicas tiene el mismo modelo de DAC que el hifiman 901,por lo tanto,debe de sonar bien,

Ya va saliendo información,, parece que reproduce todo tipo de archivos (los mas comunes almenos) vamos que parece un reproductor normal y corriente.

Pues por lo que cuentan, tiene una pinta buenísima, pero es que luego lo miro y me vienen a la cabeza dos palabras... Fisher Price.

Jajajaja, a ver, si no es ni el primer ni el último repro con forma triangular, pero claro... Ese tamaño... Y en concreto el de color "aparillo lipón"...

Eso no es así, el mejor dac del mundo, mal implementado no suena bien.
